Thanksgiving

This year we spent Thanksgiving down in St. George with my parents and my brothers family. On Wednesday we went to two different petroglyph sites. I hadn't been to either of those sites since I was a little kid, I didn't even remember going there until we got there and it sparked my memory. Thanksgiving morning the boys went out shooting and we also did a little searching for some new dig sites that were found during the southern parkway construction. Many thanks to the girls for making such a delicious Thanksgiving dinner. On Friday Matt's family went out to cut down a Christmas tree so the rest of us went over to a little museum in Hurricane that has a really cool collection of arrowheads among other neat stuff. After dinner on Friday we all went over to Heritage Park to ride the carousel and play in the water fountains. On Saturday everyone else had left so we went down to the Virgin River in Mesquite to go bowling and play games in the arcade. It was lil Robby's first time bowling and he had a blast. After Mesquite we took a small hike in St. George to look for some Anasazi pit dwellings I saw on a map while researching other sites that we saw pictures of at the Hurricane museum. We found the site and stumbled upon and active archaeological dig. The two guys up there digging were way cool and let us look around and take pictures. They have been involved in numerous sites in the area over the years and the most notable one is the Red Cliffs Archaeological Site that we visited over spring break in 2012. While it was really cool to see it was kind of sad because there was a huge billboard stuck right on top of the site and garbage dumped all over the place. In doing research looking for new places to visit I realized how many of these sites are ruined by greedy people and land development. I kind of feel like it was an honor to meet those two men that care so much about preserving the past. These men don't have any funding for the dig and aren't seeking anything in return. I wish I could have spent more time with them. Out of all the Thanksgivings in my life the majority of them have been spent in St. George and I hope that tradition continues.

Last Football Game

Yesterday was the last home football game for us, we'll miss the last game next weekend while we are down in St. George.
It was a cold one and there wasn't much action in the whole first half of the game. It warmed up a bit after half time the game got a little more exciting.
Utah State 13 Colorado State 0
The game was during Lil Robby's nap time. He tried to stay awake but slumped over in the middle of stuffing his face full of popcorn while still clutching a few pieces of popcorn in his little hand. He fell asleep just after half time and woke up with about 10 minutes left in the 4th quarter.

Veterans Day

Thank you to all the men, women, families and friends of those who have served our country. Most importantly I want to thank my dad for the example he is and for teaching me what it is to be a man. My dad is one of the greatest examples of self sacrifice I have known in my life.

Geology Museum

Yesterday we went to the opening of a new little museum in the Geology Building on USU's campus. We saw all sorts of rocks, meteorites and tons of fossils from plants and animals. Robby even got to make his very own fossil.

Plenty of geologists were on hand to identify any "mystery" rocks you brought in. We brought a few in and also picked up some new ones while we were there. Robby has his very own dinosaur bone now. I guess this is the start of Robby's collection. Top left to right - Geode with quartz crystals, chert, Apache Tear Drop (Obsidian), petrified wood, Gypsum, dinosaur bone, amethyst, snail fossil Robby made by pressing a fossil into clay and then pouring some wax into the impression.

Another cool thing we learned from our visit is where our drinking water comes from. After the museum we had a picnic at first dam and then drove up Logan Canyon to Dewitt Springs. All the concrete squares are collection points for the spring. The structure is where the water is cleaned with chlorine gas even though it's totally safe to drink (government mandates). Not all the water from the spring is collected, you can see the rock canal thingy that is diverting water that isn't used into the Logan River. After Logan Canyon we cleaned up leaves and the rain gutters followed by watching the Aggies beat UNLV at football. Sloppy game but a win is a win. What an awesome day!

UEA Week

Last week we went down to St. George for the better part of the week. We left late Tuesday night so Wednesday we took it easy and hung out around Pioneer Park and ate lunch sunning on the sandstone. Thursday we got up and headed out towards Gunlock on an adventure to find another cave with petroglyphs at a spot we found over spring break this year. Karli and Robby hung out and let me do a little exploring on my own, it's a pretty neat spot. Friday we tried to make it to Toquerville Falls but the road got pretty bad and we had to turn around a couple miles from the falls. It was a total bummer but we just drove over to a park in Springdale and found some yummy ice cream wandering around the shops in town. The ice cream was awesome and totally hit the spot. We also bought a geode that we smashed open later at the house.  Saturday morning we went to the farmers market at ancestor square and ended up staying in and playing games the rest of the day because Lil Robby wasn't feeling well. We didn't try and do too much and it was a way fun and relaxing trip.

Aggie Football Family Day

Yesterday we went to Aggie Football Family Day at Romney Stadium. We are so excited for football season to start. We had so much fun watching the Aggies scrimage and being able to run around on field afterwards. Robby loved giving the football players high fives and trying on some of their equipment.
Below is a link to more pictures from yesterday and the past month or so. We've been a little busy with moving and the new house thing lately so I haven't found the motivation to post. More videos are coming soon.

Monster Truck Mayhem

Last night while the girls went to a play, Lil Robby and I went to the monster truck show at the fairgrounds. Robby loves trucks. For a while there he would not go to sleep unless his bag of trucks was in bed with him.

Logan Canyon Cookout

On Friday we went up Logan Canyon for some dutch oven chicken and s'mores. The kids had a great time helping me build the fire to roast marshmallows. They did an excellent job at collecting twigs and we ended up with perfect coals for roasting. It was a great day to start off the weekend. Yesterday we went spent the day at the farmer's market and the park and today we are going back up the canyon for a hike.

Grace turns 4

Grace turned 4 last week and we had a great time at her birthday party.
Happy Birthday Grace!

Happy Mother's Day

Yesterday we continued our new tradition by going down to Hogle Zoo for Mother's Day.

Health Days Parade

Saturday we went to the Health Days Parade in Smithfield. We had been told not to expect much out of it but we were actually quite surprised. It was a pretty good little parade and we all had a great time. Both kids had a bag full of candy to show for it.

Bedtime

The past couple of nights Robby has been insisting that he read his books before bedtime. This is one of my favorite parts of the day.

So Cal Video

The video I had envisioned in my mind before this trip was a lot cooler than it actually turned out. I really didn't take as much video as I wanted, must have been having too much fun to care.

Disneyland Trip

For the past few days we have been down in southern California with Karli's mom Janet. We had so much fun visiting with my grandparents, playing at the beach and going to Disneyland. We met up with Matt, Emily, Grace, Steve, Angel, Gabriella and Holly at Disneyland on Monday and Robby had awesome first time at the park. It was such a fun and relaxing trip, I was sad to see it end.

Easter Egg Hunt

This Sunday Jim and Cindy invited us down to SLC for an Easter egg hunt and brunch. Robby and Grace had so much fun finding all the eggs hidden around the yard. Jim and Cindy got creative with the hunt this year. The kids found the usual beautifully dyed easter eggs and plastic ones filled with all sorts of neat things like stickers, tattoos, candy, coins, nuts,  garlic cloves and dirt (oops, I mean soil;). I thought the soil and garlic cloves were the most creative but the kids had a different opinion. Brunch was way yummy and Aki, Phoebe, Ben and Tamra came over for that so it was really great to visit with them. Thanks for everyone for making this such a fun day!

Just a real quick one, I didn't take that much video.

Baby Animal Days

Today we went to Baby Animal Days at the American West Heritage Center. Grace came along with us and we had so much fun seeing all the new babies. The weather kept a lot of people away so we didn't have long lines for anything we did. The only disappointment was that we had Robby signed up for mutton bustin but they had to cancel the last round because of the rain. It only rained for a little bit but the sheep were wet and they didn't want to get the kids to have wet pants for the rest of the day. Oh well, there's always next year. The rain gave us a chance for Robby to take a nap while we took Grace home so she could go down to SLC for a wedding. Janet met up with us after Robby was done napping and we finished out the rest of the day visiting all the animals we didn't see earlier. Things worked out perfect and it turned out to be a beautiful day after the rain.
